The Wonders of WIC - Breastfeeding-Related Highlights from the Northeast Region

The USDA, Food and Nutrition Service Northeast Regional Office has captured accomplishments and innovations related to promoting breastfeeding throughout their region. Read about State and local efforts within the Northeast Region, and meet a few of their WIC stars. In this compilation, they:

Highlight the efforts and successes of the WIC Breastfeeding Awards of Excellence awardees (learn more about these awards).

Share interviews with breastfeeding moms and their experience with breastfeeding and the support WIC (including Breastfeeding Peer Counselors) provided them, as well as interviews with Breastfeeding Peer Counselors about what they do and how they connect with and support moms (learn more about Breastfeeding Peer Counseling). 

Feature highlights from National Breastfeeding Month in August.

Showcase their States':

• Breastfeeding rates (find your State's breastfeeding rates using an interactive graph from WIC Participant and Program Characteristics 2018), 
• Innovative strategies employed to support breastfeeding families, and
• Highlights that included both social and traditional media for WIC breastfeeding promotion and support efforts (including a radio call-in listener who thanked her WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor on the air!) 
• Introduce some members of the Regional WIC Team at USDA.
